The KLZE engine

There are a lot speculations and people how know what a real KLZE is. But; most of the Internet makes it a big pile of information. Here are the key points of determing wether you have a KLZE engine or not. Basically there are 2 types: a 'longneck' and a 'shortneck'. Based on the type of intake manifold some internal parts are different. Do notice that the longneck is sometimes called 'straightneck'.

Checks:

- Cylinder heads: they must carry the codes KL31-IAI and KL31-I0I
- Bottom part of the engine block: near the powersteering pump you'll see code KL followed by the engine nr
- Intake manifold: must carry the code M1 for the longneck or 47 for the shortneck next to the center VRIS valve
- Camshafts: must carry the codes KL01 or KL31
- If the intake manifold is removed check the shape of the intake ports, they must be almost square

As you can see, there are enough point to determine wether your engine is a KLZE engine. Do bear in mind that there are the so called hybrids around the world. For example you bought a KLZE but it is only the intake manifold on top of an KLDE engine. So, no KLZE pistons, cylinder heads, etc.

So check what you are going to buy before you pay!
